Opened in 2015, Friends of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter’s Pet Food Bank provides over 5,000 pounds of pet food each year to pet owners in need. Its mission is to help pet guardians keep their pets during times of uncertainty and also reduce the number of animals being surrendered to the Shelter.

Friends Pet Food Bank currently partners with Mizell Senior Center’s “Meals on Wheels” Program, AAP Food Samaritans, Well In The Desert, and Bloom In The Desert Ministries. Please contact these agencies for more information on how to qualify for their pet food programs.

Beginning in the summer of 2020, we are establishing a Pilot Program to help additional individuals in need of assistance with pet food during the COVID-19 crisis. Individuals may apply for assistance through the link below. Please note that the Pet Food Bank has a limited supply of food, so we may not be able to accept all requests.

Individuals accepted to the program will be provided with dry dog or cat food to help feed pet/s (up to 3 pets per household). When available, we can also provide canned food if requested. Although you will not always be able to identify the brand of pet food you receive, please know that the Pet Food Bank only uses food from unopened bags/containers that are not expired.

Our success is due directly to the kindness of our donors and friends. Donations of wet and dry, unopened pet food can be dropped off at the Palm Springs Animal Shelter’s outside donation bin: 4575 E. Mesquite Ave. Palm Springs. Monetary donations are always welcome and can be made online or mailed to the Shelter address.

If you know of someone in need of pet food or if you would like to support the pet food bank program, please email or call 760-832-6231 x 102.
